Director of Programs and Community Engagement, Hollywood Theater

As Director of Programs and Community Engagement at Portland’s Hollywood Theatre, Justen Harn develops innovative media arts programming centered around engagement and access. He has curated experiences for Design Week Portland, Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, the Walker Art Center, Seattle International Film Festival, Wieden + Kennedy, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and Literary Arts, and has facilitated programs in collaboration with Carrie Brownstein, James Franco, Todd Haynes, Miranda July, Kelly Reichardt, and Gus Van Sant, among others. His programming has garnered attention from sources including All Things Considered, The New York Times, Vice Magazine, and the Wall Street Journal.

Justen has presented on the future of cinema at MIT’s Media Lab, helped to develop groundbreaking technology featured at The Tribeca Film Festival, and served as a juror, grant panelist and consultant for a number of arts and culture organizations including the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Regional Arts and Culture Council, and the Port of Portland. In 2014, Justen was named one of Portland’s “Rising Stars” by Portland Monthly, “defined as a “change-maker, thought-leader, and conversation-starter shaping Portland’s future … in creative ways that build community,” and awarded professional development funds from The Miller Foundation in cooperation with Americans for the Arts. Later that year, he was invited to the University of Oregon’s Front50 conference, “a diverse mix of 50 top Northwest innovators.”

Justen graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in English Literature from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with studies at Oxford University, UK.
