Job Title: Fundraising and Communications Assistant
Pay: $27.73 – $28.72 per hour, DOE

Status: Non-Exempt (Part-Time, 30 hours/week)
The Communications and Fundraising Assistant specializes in providing support to the Director of Growth and Director of Communications and Distribution. The Assistant will play a pivotal role in growing Open Signal’s visibility, relationships, and community of participants and supporters. Through community outreach and by fostering a supportive and resource-rich environment, this position is instrumental in supporting organizational sustainability and impact.
This is a permanent, 0.75 FTE (30 hours/week) non-exempt position. The starting salary range is $27.73 – $28.72 per hour, with a benefits package including 100% coverage of employee health insurance premiums, optional dental insurance, employer paid Life Insurance, Short-Term and Long Term disability, employer-sponsored retirement plans (traditional and Roth 401K) with up to a 4% employer match, 11 paid holidays, an annual winter closure, and generous PTO.
Open Signal is Portland’s Community Media Center and public access broadcast station. Our mission is to nurture the change-making power of community media in service of a just and equitable world.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Communications Support
Produce Open Signal’s digital and print collateral needs and lead promotional activities (including newsletters).
Tend communications activities to ensure a compelling and consistent voice and presence across platforms.
Write online and print content and organize fellow staff members to create written and visual assets as needed.
Keep Open Signal’s website and social media platforms populated and up-to-date with new and exciting information.
Fundraising Support
Assist in planning and executing fundraising campaigns.
Support donor stewardship through acknowledgment and updates.
Help coordinate fundraising events.
Maintain organizational profiles online.
Secure and tend corporate and business sponsorships.
Provide administrative support to the Board of Directors in their fundraising efforts.
Data & Contact Management
Manage Mailchimp mailing lists and ensure consistent synchronization with the CRM system.
Maintain accurate donor records in the CRM system.
Utilize CRM, donor platforms, etc to generate reports and process transactions.
Maintain an organized archive of the organization’s photographs, advertisements, and print collateral.
Other Duties
Participate in at least 1 Open Signal staff committee.
Participate in a minimum of 10hrs of equity training per year.
Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.
Open or close building, including alarm system, and parking lot gate as needed.
Participate in All Staff meetings and training.
Prepare reports for and attend Board meetings as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Excellent written communication skills.
Excellent work planning practices, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
Proficiency in Google Suite, Canva, and Adobe.
1 year demonstrated professional achievement with social media platforms and email marketing tools.
1 year demonstrated professional achievement in event planning and customer relations.
Familiarity with CRM and CMS software and platforms.
Passion for the nonprofit sector and commitment to Open Signal’s mission.
Preferred Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Experience tracking engagement from social media platforms using tools such as Google Analytics.
Experience managing bulk email communications with Mailchimp.
Familiarity with payment processing software.
Working Conditions:
Hybrid schedule depending on organizational needs.
Occasional evenings or weekends for events.
