Lance is a co-founder of Meridian Hill Pictures and recipient of the 2014 DC Mayor’s Arts Award, the highest award given to working artists in Washington, DC. Lance is producer of the award-winning independent feature documentary CITY OF TREES
(2015), associate field producer of HARD EARNED (Kartemquin Films series produced for Al Jazeera America), co-producer of VOICES FROM WITHIN (2014), associate producer of FLY BY LIGHT (2014). Prior to founding MHP, Lance worked as a journalist in Portland, Oregon covering arts and culture for WILLAMETTE WEEK and the GRESHAM OUTLOOK. In 2006, Lance co-founded a summer ESL program for HIV/AIDS orphans in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with the NGO Hope for Children. Lance holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Dartmouth College, during which time he studied French language and literature in Toulouse, France, and North African culture and history in Fez, Morocco. He is the author of Great Ancient China Projects, a children’s history book named to the American Bookseller’s Association Indie Next List in 2008.
