Assistant Professor of Film, Video, Interactive Foundations Non-Tenure Track Appointment

POSITION: Full-time, non-tenure track appointment in the department of Film and Media Arts

RANK/SALARY: Assistant Professor in Film, Video, Interactive Foundations. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The department of Film and Media Arts seeks an experienced Filmmaker preferably with additional producing and/or interactive media skills.  The teaching assignment will include, but is not restricted to, undergraduate courses in Film, Video, and Interactive Freshman Foundations.  The position will include participation in curriculum development, teaching large foundational lecture classes, and overseeing a series of introductory film production workshop labs taught by graduate teaching assistants.  The ideal candidate will be expected to advise and mentor students; maintain a visible profile of creative practice; and engage in appropriate service to the department, the university, and the profession.

QUALIFICATIONS: MFA in Filmmaking and/or a related Film and Media Arts field. The preferred           candidate will have expertise in teaching introductory film, video and media arts to Freshman and Transfer students.  The candidate will have a strong history of teaching basic film language, introductory mirrorless cameras and 2k Camcorders, and introductory production skills in post-production, sound recording/design, screenwriting, and directing.  The candidate will be well versed in basic formal approaches to Narrative Fiction, Documentary, and Experimental Methods. The preferred candidate will have experience partnering with others for Freshman recruiting, advising, and retention practices. The candidate will be required to teach an additional course each semester with preference being in Film Producing and/or Interactive Media Arts.

Applicants should be prepared to demonstrate teaching ability and provide evidence of an active creative or industry film practice. The department strongly encourages applications by women and minority candidates.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: The Film & Media Arts Department is an internationally recognized program in documentary, independent narrative, and experimental forms. The program encourages a cross-disciplinary mix of theory and practice including hybrid and digital arts production, and has a history of producing socially conscious filmmakers.  The Department offers BA, BFA, MA, MFA and PhD degrees. Film & Media Arts is a member of Temple’s Center for the Performing and Cinematic Arts, which includes the School of Theater, Film and Media Arts and the Boyer College of Music and Dance.
