The Video Consortium is thrilled to present a second year of the Solutions Storytelling Project, a collaborative storytelling fellowship that connects regional filmmakers and social innovators in the Global South to produce solutions-focused short documentaries that catalyze positive change. SSP is from the Video Consortium, supported by the Skoll Foundation, for a more equitable future.

In 2022-2023, SSP brought 20 documentary filmmakers and 19 nonprofit organizations across Africa together to successfully create 19 short films, which are debuting this October – January, on various media platforms and Youtube channels. Now, the program is moving to Latin America!

We’re looking for a highly organized, proactive, efficient, and detail-oriented Program Manager to lead SSP in Latin America for the next year. SSP’s Production Manager will work closely with SSP’s Production Coordinator as well as VC’s Executive Director, spearheading robust relationships and intensive productions from 15-20 paired filmmakers and nonprofit organizations who are doing inspiring work across Latin America. The PM will also lead a wide array of master classes and mentorship opportunities for the program’s filmmakers.

This is an intense and highly rewarding program with a big mission to make a big impact; we’re looking for someone who’s extremely passionate about using storytelling for social good and has the storytelling/content and management skill set to lead this program with tremendous care, sensitivity, and excitement.

Program Manager Responsibilities:

  • Cull through program applications from filmmakers and organizations, help vet and finalize the program’s participants, hold Q&A sessions for applicants.

  • Be in deep communication with each filmmaker and organization beginning in December, 2023, once acceptances are made — from pre-production to production, and through post-production and publish (on media platforms or various YouTube channels) in September, 2024.

  • Lead weekly calls with filmmakers and host industry guest speakers from around the world.

  • Lead monthly calls with participating nonprofit organizations and ensure they’re supported and aligned with production schedules.

  • Edit film proposals/treatments, ensuring they align with organizations’ priorities and filmmakers’ values, and that stories are concise and strong.

  • Follow production schedules and help coordinate equipment, personnel, and travel needs where needed (remotely), while ensuring all are on schedule.

  • Review rough cuts and help hone story flow and narrative arcs.

  • Book mentors and industry speakers, coordinate filmmaker collaborative feedback sessions, etc.

  • Work collaboratively with program partners

  • Help match filmmakers with mentors to strengthen their skills as needed.

  • Track and approve budgets, stipends, and partner payments across various LatAm countries.

Qualifications:

  • Fluency in Spanish and English
    • Ideally a native Spanish speaker

    • Fluency in Portuguese a plus

  • 4+ years program management experience in doc and/or journalism industry (in both preferred)

  • Proven track record of program and partnerships management

  • Robust experience in documentary/visual journalism production
    • Deep knowledge of video production (all stages, from pre-production to post)

    • Intense attention to detail and an aesthetic eye that can catch tiny mistakes (color grading issues, typos, etc)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English and Spanish, Portuguese a plus)

  • Proactive and efficient yet balanced manner, who can excel under hard deadlines while juggling multiple (exciting) things.

  • Strong connections and knowledge of industry players across LatAm and American documentary/filmmaking scenes

  • Passion for amplifying marginalized voices and supporting emerging filmmakers to succeed and make a living as professional storytellers — and an equal passion for amplifying the missions of inspiring organizations who are working hard for positive social change.
