Founded in 1972, Downtown Community Television Center, Inc. (DCTV) is a community of and for documentary storytellers. Our programs serve youth, aspiring, emerging, and established filmmakers. We provide low-cost media arts workshops; space rentals; a nonfiction screening and event series; and a FREE youth media training program – all complimented and invigorated by our 17 time Emmy Award-winning and 2 time Academy Award nominated documentaries. In 2020, we will open a cinema devoted completely to nonfiction programming.

DCTV is seeking an IT/video engineer with 5+ years experience working in broadcast/film post-production to become our next Technical Director (TD). The ideal candidate will have experience with delivery; media archiving and back-up; Avid Isis/Nexis and Media Composer support; as well as general business IT. Must be willing to manage others and get hands dirty (electronically speaking).

DCTV’s TD is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing the video and audio engineering and information technology needs of the organization. This includes management of Rentals, Facilities, and Post staff and arranging/overseeing the work of outside contractors who provide technical services and support the organization’s telephone and infrastructure. The TD will maintain and steadily improve the A/V, professional video production, post-production, and IT technology of DCTV.

DCTV is primarily a Mac-based house, but some high-end media creation systems such as the Avid Isis and a planned color correction mastering station will require Windows expertise and advanced configuration and troubleshooting.

The TD will also be responsible for research and development for the organization’s overall information systems and for specific video production and post-production needs. The TD serves as the strategic partner with regard to the organization’s technological resources and growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·   Broadcast Support

Provide structure, streamline, and systemize broadcast workflow from acquisition to archiving
Facilitate technological support to better preserve and utilize DCTV’s extensive content library, including researching new opportunities
Oversee the maintenance and improvement of the crucial technologies and specific equipment required for the broadcast of non-fiction productions
Oversee networking, hardware, and software deployments necessary to support remote production work and seamless integration with post-production procedure and workflow

·          Information Technology

Oversee IT related account management, activation, and close out procedures
Provide technical assistance to all staff members and oversee technology related vendors
Manage disaster recovery prevention, cyber security, and business continuity planning for data and IT properties
Ensure the integrity of the IT infrastructure and architecture through regular maintenance
Evaluate software and make recommendations
Provide technological resources and staffing as necessary for the additional needs of specific events, such as video conferencing

·        Organization Leadership and Support

Confer with Managing Director to determine most efficient use of talent for technology related tasks (outsourcing vs. in-house provisioning) and oversee the timely, on-budget execution of tasks
Participate in the production of grant applications to acquire new gear and develop and oversee Statements of Work and Requests for Proposals
Generate procurement recommendations and coordinate procurement
Establish organization-wide standards for hardware, software, and local area networks.
Ensure technology projects are delivered on schedule and within budget and meet technical requirements
Maintain and establish relationships with key technology manufacturers, suppliers, and industry consultants

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have an appreciation for the documentary art form and the ways storytelling can function as a tool to change lives and empower communities.

Education:

Bachelor’s (B.A./B.S.) degree or equivalent in information systems, computer science, mathematics, business, or a related discipline
ACSR Avid Certification preferred

Experience:

5+ years experience as an IT/video engineer working in broadcast film post-production
Demonstrated management experience in leading, training and
supporting technical staff

Demonstrated experience in managing all aspects of IT, including infrastructure support, software development, telecommunications, system maintenance, networking equipment configuration
Demonstrated experience with supporting cameras and other production equipment, editing systems, and shared storage
Track record of successfully conceptualizing, launching, and delivering multiple projects on time and within budget

Skills:

Experience with Avid Isis/Nexis certified switches and infrastructure, RAIDs, and other video-specific computer components and devices
Experience with Avid and DaVinici workflows, including best practices and troubleshooting
Strong network management skills, especially for video production SANs
Familiarity with MS Windows active directory and user account management
Fluency with Mac and PC hardware, software, and advanced configuration
Familiarity with VMware, SANs, and fiber infrastructure
Proficiency with LANs, switches, DNS, TCP/IP network administration
Experience with Web Hosting services and vendors
Familiarity with VoIP and other telephone systems
Strong analytical and project management skills; must be able to develop program plans
Demonstrated ability to work independently and under pressure, with the ability to prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines
Ability to communicate with and understand the needs of internal and external clients
Ability to create and manage processes and procedures
