Founded in 1972, Downtown Community Television Center, Inc. (DCTV) offers programs and services for youth, aspiring, emerging, and established filmmakers. We provide low-cost media arts workshops; space rentals; a nonfiction screening/event series; and a FREE youth media training program – all complimented and invigorated by our 17-time Emmy Award-winning and 2-time Academy Award nominated documentaries. In 2020, we will open a cinema devoted to nonfiction programming.
DCTV is seeking a Director of Technology (DoT) with 7+ years experience. The DoT is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing DCTV’s AV engineering and IT needs and serves as a strategic partner with regard to the organization’s technological resources and growth. The ideal candidate will have experience with all phases of production and specific expertise with creating, overseeing, and maintaining digital film workflow; delivery for broadcast; project and media archiving and back-up; Avid Isis/Nexis and Media Composer support; as well as general business IT. Must be willing to create protocols and systems, manage others, but also “get hands dirty” (electronically speaking).
DCTV is primarily a Mac-based house, but some high-end media creation systems such as the Avid Isis/Nexis and a planned color correction mastering station will require Windows expertise and advanced configuration and troubleshooting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Structure, streamline, & systemize workflow from acquisition to archiving
Facilitate tech support to preserve & utilize DCTV’s content library
Oversee maintenance & improvement of tech/equipment for DCTV’s docs
Oversee networking, hardware, & software to support remote production work and integration with post-production procedure & workflow
Facilitate use, training, & upgrades of event projection & lighting systems
Oversee tech in the cinema ( ex: installation/programming by contractors)
Facilitate the learning & use of DCTV’s Tricaster studio-in-a-box system
Oversee IT related account management, activation, & procedures
Provide technical assistance to staff & oversee technology related vendors
Maintain IT infrastructure and architecture
Organization Leadership and Support
Oversee on-budget, on time execution of all tech projects
Participate in grant applications to acquire gear & develop SOWs and RFPs
Generate procurement recommendations and coordinate procurement
Maintain & establish relationships with tech manufacturers & suppliers
The ideal candidate will appreciate documentaries & the ways storytelling can function as a tool to change lives and empower communities.
BA or equivalent in info systems, computer science, or a related discipline
ACSR Avid or other advanced video engineering certification preferred
7+ yrs experience preferably as an IT/video engineer in post-production
Experience in leading, training, & supporting technical staff
Experience in managing all aspects of IT, including infrastructure support, software development, telecommunications, system maintenance, networking equipment configuration
Experience with cameras, editing systems, & shared storage
TV studio engineering experience a plus
Experience with Avid Isis/Nexis certified switches and infrastructure, RAIDs, and other video-specific computer components and devices
Experience with Avid and DaVinici workflows
Strong network management skills, especially for video production SANs
Familiarity with MS Windows active directory & user account management
Fluency with Mac and PC hardware, software, & advanced configuration
Familiarity with VMware, SANs, and fiber infrastructure
Proficiency with LANs, switches, DNS, TCP/IP network administration
Experience with Web Hosting services and vendors
Familiarity with VoIP and other telephone systems
Strong analytical and project management skills
Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines
Ability to communicate with & understand internal and external clients
