On Friday, November 3, 2017, The Alliance for Media Arts + Culture hosted the Youth Media Summit/Chicago – a half-day convening for youth media organizations, educators, emerging artists and community leaders. We gathered together in inter-generational solidarity, screening some of the most exciting youth media work of the year, and sharing insights from compelling new projects and collaborations across the country. We identified needs in the youth media field and contributed powerful collective strategy and vision to the national Youth Media Collective Action platform.

The Summit program featured:

•      A Showcase of new youth media from Chicago, Whitesburg, KY, Richmond, CA and beyond;

The Launch of THE ISSUE: an intergenerational arts magazine designed to imagine and build a future where we all belong – featuring spoken word, music and interactive media;

•     Insights in Civic Participation and Media Literacy: a presentation of key learnings from The Alliance National Youth Media Network, in partnership with NAMLE, Free Spirit Media, Chicago Youth Voices Network and 14 Black Poppies;

•     A Town Hall-style dialogue identifying the most pressing needs and emerging solutions in the Chicago youth media community, to inspire local collaborations and inform the national Collective Action platform.
