NAMAC Receives $250,000 Grant from Adobe Foundation for Global Youth Media Initiatives

Oakland, CA—The National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture (NAMAC) today announces a $250,000 grant from the Adobe Foundation to support NAMAC’s diverse Youth Media initiatives including the Global Youth Media Network, Collective Impact planning and development, ALLIANCE 2016 Conference and the NAMAC Creative Leadership Lab at Sundance.

NAMAC has been committed for decades to developing the network of community arts organizations that serve youth, engaging national programs to enrich and scale youth media education and impact, mapping the field, and convening diverse voices and stakeholders through vibrant conferences, regional meetings, virtual roundtables, and leadership training. This grant from Adobe will enable NAMAC to continue developing organizations and youth creativity aligned with purpose, and to create powerful media and impact in communities around the world.

As part of a multi-year strategy, this funding will support the launch of a national Youth Media Collective Action initiative. NAMAC will serve as a backbone organization leading a systemic approach to:

  • • improving broad and equal access to high-quality media arts training and participatory community-based arts experiences
  • • leveraging the new National Core Arts Standards for Media Arts to create inter-connected learning environments in schools and community programs
  • • articulating a metrics-and-narrative-based impact strategy that can accurately capture and reflect the contributions of cross-sector and place-based collaborations on cultural and resilience movements

NAMAC’s vision for the future of Youth Media includes the integration of youth leaders, artists, content and voices across programs and disciplines. NAMAC can now offer dynamic new opportunities for national and global youth media organizations to collaborate, building on unique core strengths and a profound collective capacity to serve young media artists where they are. It has never been about ‘giving voice.’ It’s about listening to each other and heeding the words of the prophets of the next generation.”
