Allied Media Projects (AMP) is seeking a talented individual to become our new Communications Manager, to lead our daily work towards our ambitious communications goals.
The Communications Manager must have excellent written communications skills and have an enthusiasm for writing about the AMC and AMP’s Sponsored Projects. They must also have the ability to to effectively manage the work of the multiple consultants we engage to help us achieve our communications goals: copywriters and copyeditors, publicists, designers, developers, videographers and photographers, assistants, etc.
It is ideal that the Communications Manager be able to learn how to administer the range of web platforms that have we have grown to rely on. These include content, commerce, and marketing platforms such as Drupal, Shopify, Mailchimp, Zendesk, Eventbrite, and Sched. More and more, we rely on these sorts of hosted services to help us get the job done.
The new Communications Manager must live in or be willing to relocate to Detroit, Michigan.

The salary range for this full-time position is $37,000 – $50,000, commensurate with experience. AMP employees enjoy a generous benefits package. The ideal start date is July 5, 2017.

ABOUT THE COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER ROLE
The network of AMP Sponsored Projects is growing, with over 70 active projects at the time of this posting. The Communications Manager will work to increase the visibility, understanding of, and reach of this growing network of Sponsored Projects. The Communications Manager will also lead public outreach for and documentation of the annual Allied Media Conference (AMC) with the goal of expanding and deepening participation in the AMC and sharing the vision and ideas emerging from the conference. The Communications Manager will also manage an online organizing process to support the programmatic and logistical goals of each year’s conference.
As Communications Manager you will:
- produce original written material in the form of reports, blog posts, press releases, internal notices and memos, social media posts, etc., as well as editing and proofreading the writing of other contributors.
- manage the calendar and workflow of communications.
- manage the work of consultants such as copywriters and copyeditors, publicists, designers, developers, videographers and photographers, assistants, etc., and other contributors and consultants all working to help AMP achieve our communications goals.
- negotiate deliverables, terms, and fees with communications consultants.
- administer various online platforms that support our work such as Drupal, Shopify, Mailchimp, Zendesk, Eventbrite, Sched, etc.
- oversee ticketing processes for special events and fulfillment of orders from our online store.
- serve as a point of contact for AMP in response to inquiries from members of our community, from media outlets, from researchers and academics, etc.
- contribute to the overall development of communications practices and strategy.
- fulfill other related responsibilities as necessary.

- Experience in marketing and publicity
- Experience with instructional or technical writing
- Experience as a participant in the Allied Media Conference and/or one of our Sponsored Projects
